Our First Giveaway and Etsy Shop Opening

I started my blog back in the middle of May this year and it has been so much fun! I've "met" so many nice people through my blog and I look forward to even more! I love writing, creating, and photography. I love my family life, decorating our home, and working with my hubby on home improvement projects. To love all these things and be able to combine them all and share it with kind folks who are supportive, encouraging and actually enjoy reading it almost seems to be too good to be true sometimes! So I want to thank all of you that take the time visit my blog...to my fellow bloggers, my friends on the Country Sampler forum, my family and friends near and far and everyone else that stops by to visit....I'm both grateful and honored from the bottom of this country girl's heart!

Today I want to announce our very first giveaway in conjunction with the opening of yet another new venture for us, our Etsy Shop. I say "our" because Jason (my hubby) has a big part in it! People that have known me for some time know about all the wonderful things he's built for my mom and me. People often tell him that he really should sell his items. We've always talked about it and I've encouraged him, but we've never taken that next step...but we decided to "just do it". We'll be adding more as time goes on....maybe even bigger pieces of furniture, but for now, it's smaller wooden decorative items. Jason is always the woodworking expert around here (And I'm just fine with that and ever so glad). He builds and then I step in to help with the painting and distressing of the items and in running the shop. And one of these items that we will have for sale in the shop, we are offering in our giveaway today........a set of two prim shutters.

These shutters are black distressed with barn red with a prim star cutout in each one. (That's just homespun fabric on the back of my chair that you see behind the star in the picture...it's just a regular star cutout). They measure 7" x 24" x 3/4". They'll come ready to hang in that special place in your home. All you need to do to enter is check out our Etsy shop (by the same name) and take a look around. Then come back and leave a comment. We'd really like to know your favorite color and sizes or if you would like to see another size or color offered in the shutters or pegboards. Also, since being "hearted" on Etsy is a good thing....if you would like to "heart" me ...I'd really appreciate that too! Then finally, if you would be kind enough to announce my giveaway on your blog, we would be very grateful and would add your name to the drawing two more times. The drawing will take place on Tuesday night, July 22nd, at 10:00 P.M. I will post the winner the next day on Wednesday, the 23rd. Now if you're not a blogger, I still want you to be able to enter if you'd like. If you leave a comment, please make sure you leave your name and email address so I can contact you if you win! My comment section is now set to where the anonymous comment option can be used....but remember to tell me who you are and your email address so I'll know! You just might be the winner!

I'd also like to thank Kindra of 3 Guys, a Girl, and a Prim Place. I've really learned alot from her example. She actually discovered my "surprise" on Etsy before I announced it today and she's been very kind and helpful to me. She opened her Etsy shop back in May and has been a blessing and blessed by it. Thanks so much, Kindra! I think you're very deserving of your success!

Again, thanks to every one of you and good luck!

I'm so excited for you Tammy!! Woo Hoo! I had a terrible migraine last night and there were storms too, so I had the computer shut off and I went to bed EARLY. At 1:00 am I was wide awake, migraine gone, and no storms. So I turned on the computer and went straight to your etsy store for a peak, hoping some items would be posted. :)

You and your husband make a great team!! I love the shutters. I guess the only suggestion is offer a custom orders on the shutters. Some might want longer ones for their windows. I went to measure mine and they are are pretty long. But how to do that??? Maybe you can put on the bottom of your descriptions that custom order can be made to length, and they will need to contact you with cost of shutters and shipping. Just a thought. And it's totally up to you do that. But they would look great anywhere in the house. Could even display them separately!! :) I love the peg rack...oh and I see you added your flag this morning! You and hubby do great work and I wish you the best with Etsy! It's a lot of fun!

I hope I win! :) What a generouse giveaway! I'll post your giveaway on my blog later on. And if you have any other questions, you know where to find me.

Tammy,
How exciting for both you and your hubby! Yay!

Very nice stuff and what a generous giveaway you are having :)

Suggestions...offer other colors. Black and red are very popular but also try mustard and I know others don't love it but my fav color is BLUE. Something else to try would be layering different colors for different effects!

Also, I like that you are sealing everything so if they are outside they are protected but I'm not a huge fan of glossy stuff. Maybe try some satin sealer? Some even like things unsealed in plain old flat paint, so you could offer that, too.

I love the peg shelf, too

Congrats again!

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a minute this morning before heading off for a busy day of things to do....to thank all of you so far for your kind words, suggestions, and for entering! Your suggestions are very helpful and I value your opinion! Thanks so much!

In answer to those that mentioned different colors....we already had mustard on our list of colors to do, as well as a distressed off-white or ivory (I think Shabby Chic decor would like that too). I think Leslie mentioned blue and I'm a fan of blue too, Leslie, so I'm with you..I have navy in my house with all my reds...what shade of blue did you have in mind?

As far as the glossy finish...the pictures with the flash make them look more shiny than they really are...but we had talked about a satin sealer like Leslie suggested.

Since I know there are so many tastes in decor out there and there are some prim lovers out there that like flat, grungy, all the way... we might give the option to request no sealer at all. For us, I guess we like what we call "clean prim" and like it sealed, but not glossy.

We also will add a comment to the store about doing custom orders like Kindra suggested....with a contact us option on price and time frame. (We had discussed that as well).

So you all have been very helpful and this is why your comments are important...we want to provide what you love!

Thanks to each of you for taking time to tell us what you think!

Good luck...I wish I could just pick you all!

Thanks too to all that have posted the giveaway on your blogs...

I've got to go prepare for Jason bringing in a new dryer...ours went kapooey a few days ago...we've been "roughing it"...will be glad to get it!

Have a great rest of the weekend!
Tammy

Leslie said...

Tammy,
You are totally right about the semi-gloss and the camera! Actually, I use the satin polycrylic on a lot of my projects and when I take a photo, I end up with a huge glare from the flash! The camera just doesn't make things look the way they actually do.

Some one may have mentioned this but maybe you could do up shutters in certain common sizes and then give the choice of colors and sealers? You could offer a distressed look and which two colors they want layered or whatever. You could charge a few cents extra for sealers or "extras"....? Maybe even different cut out shapes? That way you could appeal to all sorts of decorating styles? Just something that came to me out of nowhere! (My brain is dangerous! LOL)

You have lots of good ideas and in time I'm sure you'll see what sells better than others. :)

We are currently building a country home and my wheels are spinning about these great shutters. I have a great place all picked out for them :) I,like your self, love to go to thrift stores and flea markets and more looking for that unique country piece.I also am not willing to pay goodwill prices. I love the pail you found~! With gas prices high I find going to the auction is the perfect solution to saving on the gas cost because you have hundreds of item to bid on and you don't have to drive around to see them all. Country auctions are the best. You can find great items for a buck or two. Keep finding those great deals and thanks for having a giveaway~!
