Summer and watermelons………I’m not sure we’ve ever had a summer without watermelons. It’s just one of those things that go together.
We grew watermelons in our garden this year, and my cousin also sent a few home with us from Alabama when we were there.
Both of my boys love watermelons.
We took one to Colt because he absolutely loves watermelons and always looks forward to the first one he’s able to enjoy each summer. I could tell by the grin on his face that he was glad to see us pull up with it.
And Luke loves them just as much!
Joy even made some watermelon pops. Luke thinks she’s pretty awesome! To make them, she just stuck a craft stick in the green part of the watermelon (by pushing hard) and put it in the freezer inside a freezer bag.
I eat watermelon, but it’s not my favorite thing. I blame that on my mama. She said she craved them when she was expecting me. Maybe I got too many of them then.
:)
Growing up, I remember it being a treat during the summer, after supper, Mama would put newspaper out on the table and haul the watermelon out of the refrigerator and cut it up. We’d salt it up real good and enjoy it for dessert. And there were always the seed spitting contests if we were enjoying our watermelon outside.
What about you? Do you like watermelons? Did you grow watermelons in your garden? Do you have memories of summers with watermelons?

We love watemelon! I just cut up a huge one yesterday!
We LOVE watermelons in the summer time. Darbee just discovered last year that she like it too and it soon became one of her favorites. Have a great day!
I love watermelon...it's the best part of summer. I'm a cold weather person so much prefer fall and winter but it's the delicious fruits and vegs of summer that gets me through the hot, humid weather. :o)
Thanks for sharing not only your watermelon memories but the photos of your son...too cute!
I am sorry to say, although we are a lot alike I have to be different on chickens and watermelon. I just never cared for it as a child even. I will eat it if someone has it and I am expected to, but I can't say I like it. The rest of my family LOVE it.
Ahhhh.....How I love the sweet crunch of a juicy red slice of watermelon...and, especially, on a hot summers day!
Blessings, my friend!

I do love watermelon. We ate it on newspaper when I was a kid, too. Our little dachshund loves to eat a couple of bites, too!!!
Thank you for your kindness and prayers re John's surgery.

We love watermelon! It too was a treat growing up. We have tried to grow them, but never had much luck. And with the extreme drought the last few years and water getting rationed, we didn't even attempt a garden.
I love watermelon too. Funny because I couldn't stand it as a kid. Sweet picture of your little guy enjoying his.
oh LOOK watermelon with seeds! :) Like the old days. Our local grocery store doesn't even have them anymore. Everything is the seedless variety. It is so much blander than a "REAL" watermelon! :)
