My Stepback Cupboard (Take #2)

If you read my earlier post about my stepback cupboard a few days ago, you could probably sense my indecisiveness about the color. I love the cupboard......I mean LOVE it....and I did love the color. The thing bugging me was seeing that color that close to my honey oak cabinets...the tones didn't just thrill me together! They didn't compliment each other. I wish I had gotten a pciture of the cupboard and the cabinets together so you could see. You could kind of tell by the kitchen table chair that is visible in the pictures (it's the same color as the cabinets). However, here's a picture of just the cupboard then:

Here's a picture of the honey oak cabinets:

The only thing visually separating the two is the door opening to the dining room so your eye definitely travels from one to the other. It "bugged" me enough that I wanted to try red! I'm so glad my husband is patient! He was willing to move it back out to the porch and he even gave it most of the first coat of paint. Then the next day, I gave it another coat. I decided to leave the prevoius color on the shelves. We lightly distressed the red and left the lighter shelves distressed a little heavier. So...here's take #2 on the cupboard:

I feel like this color better suits me anyway. And so many of you have expressed interest in showing it all decorated. Unfortunately, it won't be an overnight process, at least not to get it like I want it. I have to collect more prim goodies. I am tempted to "steal" from other rooms, but I just got some of those like I want them and so I'll have to just do a little shopping. It would be nice to just go buy everything I want to go in there, but my budget won't let me (especially after all of the other things we've done in there). But on the bright side, I've won a couple of giveaways and have gotten some goodies to use in there! I've shared some of those with you, but my newest one came in the mail today!

This is the giveaway from Char of The Pickled Pepper Patch. I was so excited to see this come in Monday's mail! Our mail lady honked again and Joy gladly went out and retrieved our package!

I'm positive all of this will be used in my kitchen, but I'm still playing around with everything. (We were out of town this weekend, so nothing was accomplished here at the house.) These cinnamon rolls look SO realistic that my family has been very disappointed to learn that I didn't make real cinnamon rolls for them! I'm telling you somebody is going to pick one of these up and take a bite out of them before it's over with, because they looks so real! I just love everything that I got....everything is just so prim! It actually looks really good on the red cupboard too! :)

And last of all a few of you asked what color the bowl rack was going to be.....well it seems like I'm not getting the color right on the first try here lately, so it may not be the final say-so on it....but I'm thinking black (lightly distressed) right now. It will go on the wall between the pantry door and the back door (which are both red). So maybe I should ask you....what color do YOU think it should be? :)

Tammy,
I liked the cupboard before you painted it red but now I think I love it. Great Job Girl!! I definitely think your bowl rack should be painted black. Not a shiny black but a lite black wash. What color of bowls will you be putting in it. You might want to consider that before you paint it. Post pics when you finish.

Paint can be so tricky. I often have several color choices in mind but I'm not really sure until I start painting. I think you should go with your gut and if you're not happy, do it another color. I like the cupboard either way but it's one of those things where you have to live there so you do the way you like :)

The cinnamon buns look great. I want to try them and Char did a tutorial on them a few weeks back. I just need to try it!

Have a great day!

Love the color of the cupboard of course I loved it the other way too:) But I think the red brings out the red in your valences which is a good thing.
Love the cinnamon buns too!

I think that's a great choice of color on your bowel rack, I know that's what I would do.

Well it was more work...but I really like the red!! But maybe I'm being biased, it's my favorite color. I would paint everything red if I could. And I think the bowl rack would look great black.

Congrats on your wins! I know the boys in my home would think they were real and try to eat them. :)

Well I happen to think the stepback is the PERFECT color combo! hehe wondery why?!! Now we have twins!

I say black on the plate rack. It will show up well and black is the new neutral so whatever color bowls you put it in will go very well.

And just when I thought your creations couldn't get any better... I LOVE the mix of red and cream, Tammy! Now that's my kind of cupboard. I can relate about the decorating, too. A little at a time, right? But the collecting and making are all part of the fun.

Enjoy your latest winnings :)

I love love LOVE the cupboard in the red! And for the bowl rack....I am going to suggest black. OOOOO! All this fun stuff! You lucky girl! I can't wait to see them all filled up!

I know how you feel about having a hubby that builds things for you. Mine knows that he never has to buy me expensive jewelery...he just has to build me things! He is known to say, "I have some time this morning--what would you like me to build you?" That is music to my ears, I tell ya!

Hi Tammy, I love the color change the red really looks great! I know it takes time to shop around too for what you would really like to put in there. Will it be all decorations, or will you use jams and jellies or somethings like that. Deb

Tammy, I absolutely love the red. I think it really pops now. I can't wait to see it decorated. I agree I think the bowl rack would look great black. I wish I had one. It's one of my favorite prim items as well as the bread boards for the stove. One day. :)

It looks great! I don't think you can ever go wrong with black or red! LOL! Although I liked it before too. I think leaving the shelves and back the lighter color will be wonderful to show off your goodies. And I love the give away prizes you got! Awesome!
I will vote for black for the bowl rack. If your bowls are different colors, this will be like a neutral backdrop for them. Can't wait to see!

The red is perfect! Leaving the inside the original color will really make your accessories pop. Good job!

Hi Tammy; that cabinet looks so great in red! You are sooooo lucky to have a dh that is so in tune with you and so talented. Does he have a brother?uncle?twin?second cousin twice removed? LOL!! Can you clone him? No matter what color you paint it; it is such a gift of love.

Oh, Tammy!
It's beautiful, and you could never go wrong with red!!!!

I, too, am always torn as to whether I should paint or stain natural wood. It seems the point of having beautiful, real wood would be to showcase it and it's grain -- but sometimes, it just won't do and you have to paint.
I think that you've made a beautiful choice!

Have fun decorating it -- I get impatient, too. I'm on both sides of that fence, right now. I can't wait to see it decorated, but I understand (and am "feeling ya") that you're going to have to take some time.

Many Blessings,
Julie
