Happy Father's Day Daddy........From Your Little Girl.

I'm my Daddy's favorite daughter. Never mind the fact that I'm his only daughter!

My daddy's always been there for us. He and Mama have been married nearly 49 years! He loves his family and is a very devoted dad and husband (and son).

My dad's a hard worker too. I've heard from several guys that he can work circles around some of these younger guys. Most days, he works outside all day on his job, then comes home and works in his yard.....and lots of times mows OUR yard too (he lives next door). We tell him we'll do it...but he always says as long as he can do it, he'll do it (He is usually doing this before Jason makes it in from work). He still hasn't retired (although he's thinking of it very soon). But I suspect when he does retire, he'll still be working....working in his yard, around the house, tinkering around with his brothers or fixing up something. I don't think he'll ever be happy not doing SOMETHING. However, he does look forward to sitting out on the porch (with no mosquitos) and watching the birds and squirrels!

Daddy sure does love his grandkids too. He's given them all nicknames and they call him Pop. As a matter of fact, sometimes Joy will call over there and ask if Pop can come outside (and play). She loves to be outside and so does he.

My mother has always said that my dad would do anything if I asked him...so she'd put me up to asking things that she wanted sometimes. Most of the time, it did work.

You just had to learn the things that put him in a bad mood...never try too much when getting ready to go on a trip anywhere! I remember getting one of my last "spankings" (one of the very few from him) during one of these times.

A few funny events really stand out in my mind from my childhood involving daddy too:

1) I stuck a Vics Inhaler up his nose while he was taking a nap on the couch one day when he was snoring, so he REALLY breathed that thing in! He wasn't happy with me that day, as I recall.

2) He rolled the window up on my head in the car one time. I was leaned up behind him in the drivers seat with my head stuck out the window, looking at something. He started rolling it up, not knowing this, and kept going tighter and tighter (with the old manual roll-up).....I couldn't speak but finally got his attention by pounding on his shoulder. As I recall, I wasn't happy with him that day.

3) He taught me that I NEVER wanted to smoke. At this particular time, he smoked. Although I knew what the answer would be, I would always ask the same question, "Could I have a puff of his cigarette?" He always said no. I always kept asking. One particular day, when I was probably 9 or 10, he surprised me and handed it to me, with no instructions whatsoever on how to proceed. I took a deep, deep puff....taking it ALL in. I never, ever wanted another cigarette. (Now I wouldn't suggest this method to deter kids from smoking, but it worked for me). So he taught me many things, in more ways than one.

My mama, brother, and I had prayed for a long time for my daddy to come to church with us. We never gave up praying and we saw an answer to that prayer and then were very excited when he became a Christian. He's been going with us ever since.

On my wedding day, he gave me the option of backing out, for any reason at all, if I didn't want to go through with it. Now he very much approved of Jason, his future son-in-law and knew Jason would take care of his daughter, but he wanted me to know it didn't matter how much money was spent on the wedding, it was never too late. That always impressed me.

So today, on Father's Day, I just wanted to honor my daddy with these memories and say thank you daddy for being the dad you are and to say I love you..........from your "little girl".

When Joy knew that I was posting this on my blog for my daddy, she asked if I would post something that she wrote for her daddy. By the way, she got up this morning and fixed her daddy chocolate chip waffles with syrup and a glass of milk and had the card that she made him sitting beside his breakfast.

Here's the front of her card to her dad: (That star and 5 means a 5 star dad)

Here's the inside: 3 is the code for I Love You. They have a game of playing roughest toughest (that's what the bottom part is about).

Here's the back: (Need I say more about this?)

Here's her message she wrote for me to post to her daddy:

My daddy has always been there for me! I don't remember a time when he wasn't saying, "Think outside the box, Joy Max!" Ha! Ha! I love my daddy! One time I asked my daddy, "Dad, are you afraid of anything?" And when he said yes, I COULD NOT BELIEVE it! I love my dad! ~ Joy

I hope your Dad had a great Father's Day! Hope your husband did too!

Here in Australia, Father's Day isn't until September. Why, I have no idea, especially since Mother's Day is exactly the same as in the US.

Makes it hard for me to send my Dad a Father's Day card. I end up sending cyber ones, because if I bought a real card (in September) to save until I could send it in June, I'd probably lose it. :-(

I always try and find a nice cyber card to send as well as a humorous one.

Wishing you a great week ahead!

Beautiful!

Your dad sounds an awful lot like mine, Tammy. What a blessing!

And I was also the one designated to "butter him up". I think that might be Michaela's job now :)

Have a great day!
