Faithful Fridays

Fridays sure are coming around fast! It seems as though I have plans for posts during the week for everyday and I'm doing good to get one in at least every other day! And I thought summer would bring more leisure time! It seems as though plans pop up for me everyday! Amazing how that works when you have kids, isn't it?

I decided this week for my Faithful Friday post, I wanted to look up the exact definition of faithful. Since my 1828 Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language is my most trustworthy one, this is where I looked.

Faithful -

1) Firm in adherence to the truth and to the duties of religion.

2) Firmly adhering to duty; of true fidelity; loyal; true to allegiance.

3) Constant in the performance of duties or services; exact in attending to commands.

4) Observant of compact, treaties, contracts, vows or other engagements; true to one's word.

5) True; exact; in conformity to the letter and spirit.

6) True to the marriage covenant

7) Comformable to truth.

8. Constant; not fickle. (I love this one).

9) True; worthy of belief.

God wants us us to be faithful to Him always. He is always faithful to us. Especially after reading the definition for faithful, I want to be faithful to God in every part of my life and it's something I know I have to work at constantly.

I also have a prayer request today. My mom has shingles right now and is quite uncomfortable. I'm sure she would appreciate your prayers that this is short lived.

Now to leave you with a little smile on your face (hopefully), I'd like to share something I received by email this week on the lighter humorous side of God being good. Hope you enjoy it! :)

The White Lie Cake

Alice Grayson was to bake a cake for the Baptist Church Ladies' Group in Tuscaloosa , but forgot to do it until the last minute. She remembered it the morning of the bake sale and after rummaging through cabinets, found an angel food cake mix & quickly made it while drying her hair, dressing, and helping her son pack up for Scout camp.

When she took the cake from the oven, the center had dropped flat and the cake was horribly disfigured and she exclaimed, "Oh dear, there is not time to bake another cake!" This cake was important to Alice because she did so want to fit in at her new church, and in her new community of friends. So, being inventive, she looked around the house for something to build up the center of the cake. She found it in the bathroom - a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in and then covered it with icing. Not only did the finished product look beautiful, it looked perfect. And, before she left the house to drop the cake by the church and head for work, Alice woke her daughter and gave her some money and specific instructions to be at the bake sale the moment it opened at 9:30 and to buy the cake and bring it home.
When the daughter arrived at the sale, she found the attractive, perfect cake had already been sold. Amanda grabbed her cell phone & called her mom. Alice was horrified-she was beside herself! Everyone would know! What would they think? She would be ostracized, talked about, ridiculed! All night, Alice lay awake in bed thinking about people pointing fingers at her and talking about her behind her back.

The next day, Alice promised herself she would try not to think about the cake and would attend the fancy luncheon/bridal shower at the home of a fellow church member and try to have a good time. She did not really want to attend because the hostess was a snob who more than once had looked down her nose at the fact that Alice was a single parent and not from the founding families of Tuscaloosa, but having already RSVP'd , she couldn't think of a believable excuse to stay home. The meal was elegant, the company was definitely upper crust old south and to Alice's horror, the cake in question was presented for dessert!

Alice felt the blood drain from her body when she saw the cake! She started out of her chair to tell the hostess all about it, but before she could get to her feet, the Mayor's wife said, "what a beautiful cake!" Alice, still stunned, sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess (who was a prominent church member) say, "Thank you, I baked it myself."

Alice smiled and thought to herself, "God is good."

If you'd like to share something you're thankful for, something God's done or doing in your life, a prayer request, or just anything about your daily Christian walk, we'd love to read it! Go to Joy's blog and grab the Faithful Fridays with Joy button and leave her a comment letting her know you participated, so we can all check it out!

Have a great Friday!

Faithful and one filled with faith. Luke 18:8b "Navertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?"

A sobering question. May we be filled with faith and may He find faith in us.

The cake story is cute.
My Show & Tell today is your gifts!!!

Love #8 too.

Thank you for your comments and prayers, Tammy.

Yes, prayers for your mother. Sonja, our daughter, went through shingles when she was ten years old. She had a perfect case and every doctor, nurse, orderly and janitor... I think... were called in to look at her.

Love the story of the white lie :-)

Hi Tammy!
I just had to stop by and say hi. That was such a cute cake story! :)

I do hope your mom feels better soon...I have dealt with my share of discomfort in the past couple weeks so my heart goes out to her!
I am mostly feeling better though, and just now posted again at long last.

I love your faithful Fridays, and of course Joy's too. I am just tickled that our daughters got to talk to one another on the phone this morning! :) (My daughter loved Joy's accent!) :)
We'll have to do the same sometime soon now!
Hugs,
~Tammy
