Welcome to our Home - Front Porch Christmas Decor

Welcome to our cedar home! We have no snow on our roof, although I would love it if we did!

A few years ago, Jason and I came to an agreement. Although, he does love to get the tree out and deck the house out with Christmas decor, the part he didn't like was decking the house out with Christmas lights. Icicle lights did look pretty outlining the steep roof, but I wasn't the one that had to climb up there and put them up! He liked the look of greenery with flood lights on the house. Although it wasn't easy convincing me to try it, we did and I was sold! I love the way it illuminates the house and the simplicity of it. And I'm sure Jason loves the simplicity for a different reason!

This year so far we've just put the wreaths up on the windows. Sometimes we add garland draped around the porch.

Last Saturday night, Jason, Joy and I were outside at nearly 10:00 in town picking up pinecones and it was COLD! We were laughing about the fact, that Colt might very well get off work and drive by and see his family outside near Kroger (there's a bunch of pine trees near there) and wonder what we were up to now....although I'm sure he wouldn't be surprised at anything he might see us doing! I'm sure he was glad he wasn't out there! Anyway, we picked up quite a few pinecones, which I love to decorate with at Christmas. I filled the flower boxes with them here on the front porch.

And this is "Flakey" the Snowman.....or so Joy calls him. Last year he was out on our fence. This year I decided to put him right beside the front door to welcome visitors.

And on this side, we do have "Frosty". He was a purchase a couple of years ago. I fell in love with him at Hobby Lobby and Jason bought him and brought him home! He welcomes folks on the other side of the front door.

That's it.....nothing fancy....very simple....but then so are we! I hope you enjoyed it! Now come on in out of the cold for some hot chocolate!

Thanks for stopping by to visit! Next on the tour for Christmas decor will be the sunporch....so come back soon!

Tammy,
Your home is so beautiful! We do not have our outside decorations up yet...it's been too cold and snowy. I am the one that does the decorating so I have to do it when I won't freeze...lol!

It's beautiful! The Simplicity idea really works with your beautiful home.

I really like the cute snowman made from the grapevine wreaths!

Pine cones...lol. When I was hunting with Jer the other week, on the way out I started gathering up pine cones. I was carrying quite a few and stashing them in my pockets, too. What a sticky mess I was! LOL And don't tell Jer but even after washing the coat, I still have sap in the pocket! LOL It's not a coat he wears anymore so I guess it's my problem....

Painting stitcheries isn't really bad. This is the first time I had a mess like I do with the Santa! The problem was I listened to someone else and watered the paint down more. You don't want to water it down too much...it works much better and won't bleed like that! I'm pretty certain that I can fix it somehow. I just need to sit down and get creative.

And I agree...the satin stitch isn't hard, but it is one the stitches that intimidated me at first to see it.

Have a great day :)

I love the simplicity of it all. Some people tend to overdo. We did last year and we didn't get the decorations down until March!
So this year we are going simple too!
I like the flood lights. I will suggest that to Joe, he will be deLIGHTED! LOL
Have a great day!

Hi Tammy, I must say I'm glad your husband won out - your home works well the way it's decorated.
The icicles are beautiful and I love seeing them but they are everywhere - yours is YOU and it works....good job.

Your home looks very nice, Tammy. Lights are pretty but a lot of work. I think we will keep it simple this year also. Maybe a crazy question, but how do you attach the wreaths to the windows? Have a great day!

I love it and it works great! We haven't put lights up on the outside for a couple of years now. With hubby's bad back, it made it easier not too.
Flakey is so cute, and very orginal, and Frosty is so cute! Snowmen are my favorite thing.

Did you fingers get sticky gathering those pinecones? hahaha!
We have pinetrees in the back of our property, and every time I gather them, I get sticky fingers.

Can't wait to see your sunporch!

Hi Tammy,

Your home is just beautiful!
I love the wreaths on all the windows and the spotlights. I would love to have spotlights but we get so much snow they would end up buried...LOL

I have seen a snowman before made from wreaths and love it.

Can't wait to see more pictures of your beautiful home :)

Your home is beautiful. My husband doesn't like putting the icicle lights up either (but he always does). After seeing your spotlights, I think I'll suggest this. I have the wreaths on my windows and yours show up beautifully. I'm sure many husbands will THANK you for this post!

Hi Tammy...the candy canes were so easy to make and no sewing involved!
All you do is cut your muslin in strips and just wrap all the away around your candy cane. Hot glue the end of the tip so it will stay in place. I then sprayed them with coffee and then sprinkled the cinnamon on them. I then put them in the microwave because of the candy canes being plastic didn't think they would be safe in the oven. I tried to get them to be as dry as much as possible. Once they were completely dried I just made a bow with some jute and attached rusty safety pin with a couple of rusty bells...est VOILA. Very simple and love them!

Oh! You have inspired me to decorate my porch this weekend! I'll post some pictures when finished!

The folders are what you store your digital pictures in. Like when I go to upload a picture to my blog, I go to a folder and choose it, then upload it. Does that help?

Blessings!

I love the look of the greenery illuminated and think you home is beautiful naked anyway!! It doesn't need a thing to look warm and homey and so inviting so anything you add is just a bonus. We do have to compromise with our Dh's somtimes don't we? There are so many things I don't have because DH doesn't want them and he is a keeper so I am happy to respect his wishes. I know you and your DH are like that too and that's what makes out marriages work for the long haul!

YUP Grammy Tammy will be perfect some day down the road! LOVE IT! I look forward to sharing that with you in the future!!
