New Beginnings

We've been blessed with a few of God's gifts to us through nature.....one of which came right to our kitchen bay window. We sat down for supper the other evening and this cute baby rabbit decided to pay us a visit.

Jason spotted him first! I went to grab my camera in hopes of catching him before he decided to hop away. To my surprise, he decided to stay awhile (probably to his mother's dismay). I decided to call "it" a "he". He was just sitting there watching us eat supper and stayed perfectly still as we moved near him too. He even let me close enough for a photo.

At this point, I was beginning to worry that there might be something "wrong" with him. As a matter of fact I was asking Jason what we should do...we couldn't just leave him there for dogs to find. If there was something wrong, I wanted to see what we could do for him. Jason encouraged me to wait awhile and make sure Mama Rabbit wasn't near by....saying that if we touched him and he had our scent on him, she might kill him. I suppose this is the case in Rabbit World.

I'm so glad we did wait because within a few moments, I looked out there and Mama Rabbit was inching close....coming to fetch her wayward adventurous little one. We stayed as still as possible and in a few minutes, baby hopped along with mom. Can't you just imagine the "talkin' to" (or more) he got when they got home! :) But he sure gave us a simple pleasure with his little visit at dinner time and I guess we must have been at least a little interesting to him......curious little fella!

And at the edge of our gravel driveway are four little kildeer eggs. Every year we have kildeer eggs in almost exactly the same spot.

When I went out to get photos, Mama Kildeer moved away from the eggs squawking at me!
These were the closest I could get to Mama and Daddy Kildeer, even with my 300 mm lens.

And then Daddy Kildeer flew in from nearby, so they were on oppposite sides of the eggs, just watching me.

Mama Kildeer creates quite a commotion to distract visitors from her precious babies. She runs to the far side of the driveway just a fussin' and flappin' her wings to gear our attention away from her babies and focus on her. She sometimes even acts like she has a broken wing. She actually did this for my photos!

It's amazing to me how God made each and every creature so intricately...with their own built in protective modes. I'll keep a watch and try to catch the little babies as they make their little debut!

I'm so thankful for spring and all the beauty that goes with it...God's gifts to us through nature.....new beginnings. :)

**********************************************************************************

UPDATE - I typed the above post earlier today with intentions of adding the rest of my pictures, and then this evening, Jason spotted our wayward visiting baby rabbit again! He came to almost the same spot...just over in the grass. I was able to get some better pictures!

I'm wondering if he remembered us or if his Mama tells him to stay put.

Or if he's being disobedient being out here!

Isn't he the cutest? We gave him a name.......Rascal.

And look at this.....it's pure torture for Bambi lying in the bay window sill watching little Rascal. She was just cocking her head, eyes big, ears back, and purring. And still Rascal stayed.

**********************************************************************************

One more thing....please continue to remember Joy in your prayers. She has started running fever AGAIN this evening and saying she's tired and sleeping a lot and not feeling well. So we're off to the Dr. again tomorrow. I'm not feeling so well myself. Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers....we sure appreciate them! :)

Tammy,

What great pictures. I love Rascal he's a cutie. We used to have chipmunks that lived under our shed. They were so cute to watch.

I hope your not catching what Joy has. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers a lot. I hope you all are back to your old selves soon.

"Rascal" is the perfect name for him...he is SO cute...but I'm sure his mama won't be happy to learn he's gone walk-a-bouts again..lol!

I love the bird pics too. We have birds (budgies, canaries and finches)
Our mama-budgie is "nursing" two 3-week old abies presently. It is such a delight and blessing to observe God's Nature.

Wow great pics!! LOOOVVEEEE the baby bunny!! I hope he stays safe!! your photography is great, nice clear pics...and those birds, never heard of them so obviously they are not a northern bird, but they are very pretty. I had three gold finches at my feeders last Saturday and was soooo excited...my husband and son think I am crazy!!

I hope you are not getting what Joy has either...it is nasty. I had it in January and was sick on and off for a month. All three of us had it over New Years so we were all in bed for a week!! I missed 4 days of work, it totally wipes you out. Keep drinking fluids so you dont get dehydrated.
Good luck!!

I just love your pictures!! A few years ago, a momma rabbit had made her nest under a clump of grass in the middle of our yard. Why she chose this spot I have NO idea! But, I'm glad we discovered it before my husband decided to mow! Anyway, there were about 3 or 4 tiny little bunnies--and when they got old enough, went to live under some evergreen trees we have planted in front of our house. They were the cutest, tiniest little things! And so cute hopping around! I wish I could've but, I wasn't able to get any pictures of them. Thanks so much for your post! I enjoyed it so much...and Rascal is the perfect name for him. I hope both you and Joy are feeling better today. Take care!

Tammy, Cute bunny pics. While at work a maintenance man "rescued" a baby bunny, so my hubby brought it home. They should have left it, momma's always come back for their babies, even after hours. Needless to say, it lasted with us two weeks and died. They have extreemly sensative tummies when they are that little and need their mommas. Now we have a domesticated lion head bunny named Peter.-lol

Such great pictures! The bunny is so cute! That is a good name you gave him:-) I sure hope Joy feels better and you feel better too. It's so exhausting to be sick for so long. Have a good day Tammy.

That little Rascal is adorable, and what great pics you were able to get! Having pet rabbits of my own, I know they can be very set in their ways so if he wants to visit you, momma probably won't stop him, LOL! Have a lovely day!

I just love wildlife in the spring - you never know what you're going to find!

Poor Joy. Maybe she just over did it a little too soon. The flu can wipe you out and it takes a while to get your strength back. Sorry you're not feeling so well, too.

We'll keep praying.

What great pictures. We have quite a few rabbits in our back yard and they are very cute to watch. Sorry Joy is still not better. I'll be praying that the doctor can be of some help today and that she will have her strength back soon! And also praying for you, I know how hard it is to be so worried over a sick child!

What great photos of Rascal. I can get my little camera to zoom in close enough to catch the bunnies around here. They are so much fun to watch however.
Prayers continue for all of you.
I hope that Joy will be well soon.
That virus has been very bad around here this year.

Great pix!! Aren't Kildeer just the neatest birds. I must learn more about them. I can't wait for the babies to get here. I hope you get some good pix, but you'll have to get them on day one of the hatch or you'll be too late.
I hope Joy feels better soon. She really looked tired yesterday.

Oh, I forgot to mention Little Rascal. He is adorable to. We used to catch little baby rabbits when we were kids and love on them. Then we'd let them go. They are soooo soft.

Thanks for sharing the pics!! They are great!! And the bunny is just too cute. We live in the woods, so we too have a lot of wildlife.

I will never forget about a week after we moved in, I guess the people that owned the house before us had outdoor cats so I am assuming that the racoons ate it.

So, when evening as we were sitting down to eat dinner I looked over and there was ababy racoon with his paws on the french door window looking in like 'where's the food!?!?' LOL!!

Hugs!! Carrie♥

Hi Tammy!

I'm a sucker for bunnies, and Rascal is just adorable! I'm so glad he let you take his picture, though it must have been hard on his Mom :o) I love how God is interested in the little details as well as the big picture, and how he equips even the smallest and weakest with everything they need to surive and thrive...amazing. I wonder why we ever doubt his love and provision for us...His beloved...?

I'm happy to have found your blog through a comment you left at Maryjane's Bee Hive Cottage...I've bookmarked you and look forward to visiting again!

what a wonderful experience. bunnies are so cute---til they grow up and eat your garden up!
we have a pair of Canadian geese out by the lagoon. They have a nest with 5 eggs in it. They do the same thing--try to distract away from their nests. We are keeping an eye on them. Goslings are adorable, too.....

LOL...Tammy you should have named him Peter Rabbit, cause in the story, Peter was always slipping away from his Mom to the Farmers Garden,
My Prayers are with Joy and you both. I know how you feel. I pray Joy isn't relasping, that is so much worse than the first time around.

Oh Tammy, what great opportunities you've been blessed with, those tiny little creatures to brighten your days!
Maybe the mama bunny is having you babysit for her while she goes out and about her duties.

I am sorry to hear that Joy is feverish again. I do hope you don't come down sick as well. Drink lots of water and OJ and get plenty of rest.

We get a batch of baby bunnies each year under our garden shed.
I love to watch them, especially when they get old enough to play with each other in the yard.
I hope Joy is feeling better soon. I had that stuff 3 times this winter!
Hope the rest of you don't catch it.
It is a hard one to get rid of.
