Sewing 101

Since I announced to the blogging world that Joy had her first sewing lesson last week, I figured I would follow up with how it went (with her permission of course).

I would call it a success because even though the end result can’t be worn by anyone, we both learned to thread our machine and how to basically operate it and how to (sort of) sew a straight line.

We have both been practicing. The problem with the pants that Joy attempted, that were supposed to be for my niece, was in the cutting out of the pattern. So let’s just say that we both learned a little there. And yes, I’ll admit that I laughed at my daughter. But only because it is so like something what I would have done. And then there was also the time she was sewing the pant leg to the behind of the pants. We all had a laugh on that one.  :)

But.....let me just say that she is very good natured and laughed with us!  :)

Ms. Karen is coming out again next week for another sewing session with Joy (and since I’m here I get to learn too). I’m so proud that she is determined to learn and because she is learning, it has motivated me as well! I’m very proud of you, Joy!

Thanks for stopping by! I enjoy your comments!

I think they look cute and after all the first part of sewing is to learn about you machine. Good Job.

She looks so intense at the machine. I'm sure that her next project will be easier. I learned to sew when I was young and have always loved it.

I learned to sew when I was about 10 or 11. I still love it, although it seems these days, I do more repairs than anything else :)
Blessings,
Marcia

Hi Tammy,

wow, I haven't been here in a long time! Good luck to you on my giveaway! It's sure getting the response!

And yay for starting to sew! Tell Joy the pants look awesome! Julianna is heavily involved in basketball and now has been accepted onto an elite volleyball team (withoug having to tryout!) so that's where her time is going. But she loves sewing and selling sock monkeys.

Take care, Kimberly

I enjoyed this post Tammy! I was just bugging my mother-in-law a few weeks ago to teach me how to use a sewing machine. (She makes all these wonderful pillows, curtains, etc.) I've always wanted to learn. Tell Joy great job!!
hugs,
Shelley

Bless her heart for want to and for doing it...I wish more young girls would take an interest in this kind of thing.
I think the Pink pants are a great first time project!

Congratulations! I remember when I started my sewing, my aunt taught me . The first thing I did was clothes for dolls, I had like 10 years old at that time. Joy, I hope you enjoy your new lesson.
