Our Family's Favorite Christmas Movies

As I've mentioned many times before, I LOVE Christmas movies! I have to admit that one reason I like to decorate early is so I have time to enjoy sitting in my living room at night with my family watching Christmas movies, sipping hot chocolate from early November all the way through New Year's Eve!

Today, I thought I'd share some favorite Christmas movies around here from all members of our family. (I only showed pictures of the ones that we had original movies...the rest are either taped off T.V. (or we rent them) which don't make very interesting pictures!)

We'll start with the youngest member of our family, Joy (9 years old). Her favorites are:

Annabelle's Wish (This is a must see for children...it's just so sweet!)

Prancer (It has the cutest little girl with so much Christmas spirit.)

It's a Wonderful Life

A Holiday for Love (also known as Christmas in my Hometown..with Melissa Gilbert)

A Smokey Mountain Christmas (she loves all the kids in this)

A Christmas Story (Actually she just saw it for the first time this year.)

Next up would be Colt. He's 19. Here's what came to his mind as favorites when I asked him:

I'll be Home for Christmas (the one with Jonathan Taylor Thomas).

Jingle All the Way

The Home Alone movies

The Christmas Shoes

Annabelle's Wish

My hubby, Jason, picked the following as his favorite Christmas movies that he could think of at the time I asked:

It's a Wonderful Life

A Holiday for Love

The Christmas Card

A Smokey Mountain Christmas (he loves the humor in it and it has Lee Majors)

As far as me picking favorites....it was very hard....I love so many. I discovered that I really love movies that have a cozy, homey, feeling of family and love...or if I love the homes in them, lots of snow....and a little romance always helps too. So my list is a bit longer:

It's a Wonderful Life

A Holiday for Love (This one is right up there with It's a Wonderful Life for me).

Holiday Affair

Prancer (This is our "stringing popcorn" movie).

The Christmas Card

A Holiday to Remember

Annabelle's Wish

A Smokey Mountain Christmas (I love the kids and the log cabin!)

While You Were Sleeping (Joe Jr. from this movie is a household joke around here. Jason loves this movie too...I think he might have forgot this one!)

You'll notice that some of us have the same favorites, but I think we have different reasons for choosing them as favorites!

So being the Christmas movie lover that I am, I would love to know if I'm missing out on any great Christmas movies! I'd love to hear from you if you know of a great one!

Now grab you a cup of hot chocolate, turn out all the lights (except for those twinkling Christmas lights) and have a "Merry Christmas movie watching time"!

And by the way, the ice missed us! I'm still holding out for a white Christmas....snow....not ice! :)

It's a Wonderful Life is at the top of my list. I also like While You Were Sleeping, and some of the others, but It's a Wonderful Life is the one we can't miss.

Tammy~
Have you ever seen Prancer Returns? It is really cute~and it has a touch of romance in it, too. Although I like the first one, I like this one just a little bit better.

I absolutely love "A Holiday for Love"!--we taped it off of TV a long time ago! It was called "Christmas in My Hometown" on TV and when they came out with the DVD, changed the name to Holiday for Love. Anyway....

Thanks for sharing your favorite Christmas movies...I love 'em, too! I never thought of "While You Were Sleeping" as a Christmas movie, but I guess it is!

I'm wishing for a white Christmas, too! Hope we both get our wishes. :-)

Hi Tammy, we have Annabelle's wish and LOVE it. My golden retriever Annabelle was named from that movie. Everyone once in a while I look at her face and tell her she looks like a little calf. I also love "It's a Wonderful Life". I think I might even have a crush on Jimmy Stewart. :0) God bless, Jamie

Good afternoon Tammy,
What a fun post. Christmas movies have always been my favorite and there is definitely not anything better than sitting in the evening with the room lit by the glow of nothing more than Christmas lights and watching a holiday movie. Prancer happens to be my all time favorite, although I love them all.

Please stop by my new blog that I started yesterday at http://countrygirlwishes.blogspot.com.

Holiday blessings to you and your family, Bev

You have some very excellent choices there, Tammy! We enjoy many of those and also: Elf, Polar Express, The Grinch, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

I think there's a new Muppet Christmas movie on tonight that we may tape. Which reminds me of another Muppet favorite from my youth -- Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas.

What a great time of year to get comfy and hunker down for movie night. It's been snowing here all day and there may be more on the way...

I'm glad you avoided the ice!

We love It's A Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation, Miracle on 34th Street, Home Alone, A Christmas Carol, and of course, the classics like Frosty, Rudolph, and Charlie Brown Christmas!

That cabinet is just wonderful...what talented hands Jason has been blessed with!

I am gonna send some of our snow down to ya..you just hold on!

Tammy,

I am so glad you are warm and safe. I have been thinking about you.

My favorite is It's A Wonderful Life. I have many I love to watch but that is my favorite. The first time I ever watched that movie was with my Nanny. I was hooked from the begining. I have tried to watch it every year since the first which was about 20 years ago.

I'm still waiting to see the kitchen pictures. :)

Thanks Tammy for a great list. I too love the Christmas movies. I guess IF I had to pick one to see every single year, I'd pick "It's a Wonderful Life."

Scrooged, Elf, National Lampoon's Christmas--we enjoy the humorous ones. Our granddaughter, Mallory, is 13 and Annabel's Wish is her favorite, too. She has the book and I can't tell you how many times we've read that one!
Merry Christmas, Tammy. Enjoy your beautifully lit tree, cocoa and this fine selection of holiday movies!

Tammy, I was just thinking about it -- Polar Express is a great Christmas movie that I absolutely love. I used to read the book to my daycare kids every Christmas. Maybe a good movie for you and your family to watch this Christmas Season! Bev

Tammy, My DH & I watched The Christmas Card last evening, and it was sooo very good! That was the first time we ever saw it! I also like the movies, The Nativity Story, It's A Wonderful Life, Miracle On 34th St...Home Alone always gets me to laughing no matter how many times I watch it! :) I'd like to watch Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage this evening.. I've got to see if our Blockbuster has some of the other movies you mentioned in your blog..There are several I'd love to watch..

I, too, love to just kick back in my recliner, along with my hot chocolate to drink, with our twinkling Christmas tree lights on, and watching wonderful movies with my DH!

You and your family have a wonderful Sunday Tammy!

Love & Blessings,
~Lynn

I've never even heard of Smoky Mountain Christmas. I will just have to find it. Sounds like something I would enjoy.

We've enjoyed a few Christmas movies this season too. White Christmas is another of my favorites. And I do like Little Women at Christmas time too.

And now you've talked me into warming up a cup of hot cocoa while I read on!

Blessings,
Lea
