♥ Upstairs Prim Bathroom ♥

Today I’d thought I’d share a room with you that I’ve never shared before. The upstairs bathroom.

We have three bathrooms. The hallway bathroom is the one you may remember me sharing before. It’s the one used by guests normally and it's really our “main bathroom”. It’s the one that we gave a rustic prim makeover a few years back.

Anyway, I’ve been waiting on sharing pictures of the upstairs bathroom because I've really wanted to replace the faucet so the bathroom would feel “complete” (to me anyway). I want an antiqued black one like the one in the hallway bath. But seeing that I’ve been waiting for probably two years, it most likely isn’t going to happen just anytime soon, so I decided to share it as is.

Oh, and again these pics were taken with Jason's phone.  I sure do miss my camera!

Jason made the shelf.  He also added trim to the door you can see in the mirror to make it look like a paneled door.  See?  That black faucet would be perfect and make it complete, don't you think?

The paint color on the wall is called Molasses.

The outside of the door we left as is.

Jason added all the trim around the ceiling as well as the mirror.  It was pretty boring before.

The gameboard was made by Kath of The Olde Weeping Cedar.  I just love it!

My mama gave me this stool for my birthday a couple of years ago.  The basket and star came from the Antique Gallery.

Everytime I look at that faucet, I see a black antiqued one.......can you tell it bothers me?  And I just noticed that our cat, Bambi, made her way into the picture....I have no idea what she is looking at!  :)
That's it. :)   I forgot to tell you that before we went to work on this bathroom, it used to be peach....what was I thinking?  :)

We still have one more bathroom - the master bath - but you probably won’t be seeing it until it gets a face lift, as it is very dated.  I've always wanted a claw foot tub.  Hint, hint, Jason.  :)

Thank you for stopping by!  I hope you'll stop back by on Friday for Faithful Friday!  :)

Picking Up Where We Left Off....

Last year we started a little remodeling project - our upstairs guest bathroom.  Then, I was waist deep in paperwork for the adoption and all my thoughts were elsewhere but into that project, not to mention the finances involved with the adoption halted anything else planned.

Also last year about this time, I used birthday money to purchase the ceramic tile for the bathroom.  Jason did all the trim work in the distressed deep barn red and we painted the walls a color called Molasses.  Isn't that a yummy sounding color?  That's as far as we got.  As a matter of fact, when we had our homestudy for the adoption, it was just stuck in construction mode.

Here's where we are right now:

Now, it's time to finish it!  I just had a birthday again (the end of August)....and wouldn't you know it......I always end up spending most of my birthday money on things for decorating my home, more so than personal things.  (I did get a new purse and wallet though).  Anyway, I just purchased this shower curtain that comes with rag ties.

This is my starting point.  I'm not even exactly sure what direction it will take, but my wheels are turning.  I just knew that I needed a little break from using red in my curtains and shower curtains, so this is a change for me.  I've never used this much black in decorating.  I'm looking forward to using the black and tan.

Oh, and my mom bought me this stool as part of my birthday gift.  It was also inspiration for the black.

I'll share it with you as  it all unfolds.  I'm excited to be decorating again!

As always, I'm very appreciative that you stopped by today!  Have a great day!  :)

Another Home Improvement Sneak Peak

What have we been up to? Where do I even begin?

Let's see....I gutted and cleaned another room. While Colt was gone to work Saturday, I worked on his room. Recently, we moved out his futon (by his choice) and added a fold-down couch bed that was given to us by my Aunt Jo and Uncle Wayne.

This takes up much less room in there and it also has more of a sleek modern look, which is definitely more his style.

Oops....I forgot that I took his curtain down in there to wash and I forgot to put it back up before taking the picture. It's a red straight-line valance, the same color red as the throw pillows on the couch.

And remember I mentioned in a previous post that we were working on another redo or home improvement? Well it's the upstairs bathroom. It really wasn't planned as such. We were at Lowe's (one of our favorite places, but definitely not Joy's). Jason was having to get a part to replace a part on the toilet in there and made the comment that it was too bad that we couldn't paint and put down the tile we wanted while the commode was pulled out. Well my brain started working and I remembered all that birthday money stashed away. I had initially thought new clothes for me....then I thought...Nah...how about a new look for my bathroom? So...that's how it came to be. We picked out and purchased the paint and tile that day and brought it home and the project began.

This is only a sneak peek as that's really all I have to show you. And please keep in mind that it's a work in progress, so it's messy in there! The color we picked out for the walls is called Molasses. It's a deeper tone than the color in the downstairs hall bathroom, that we recently remodeled. I have always looked at that color and thought it was so pretty and a bold, but rich color, and Jason really liked it too, so we just decided to go for it. We love it on the walls!

The tile is also a darker tone with lots of texture. It's called Noce Roman, from Lowe's. I like the combination of the two colors together...the wall and floors. We were up until 1:00 a.m. Saturday night grouting. It made for a tiring day, Sunday, but at least it was done.

And we decided to do the trimwork in there with my favorite red, since we are leaving the cabinet stained as is and leaving the original vanity top (I didn't have THAT much birthday money)....but hopefully with new decor and shower curtain, this room will be a fresh primitive change. Oh, and here's the door that Jason added the panels and painted and antiqued:

I forgot to take before pictures, but just take my word when I saw it was dated! The walls were peach and the shower curtain was cream lace with peach ruffles! You can see a hint of the paint left here (click on picture to see closer), where the trim will cover it. Now, you know why you never ever saw a picture of that room!

It may take awhile before I can show you the finished room, because I'll have to slowly accumulate my accessories, but I'll be sure and unveil the finished room when it's finally completed. I guess this means our social worker will see our ongoing project as is, when she comes for our adoption homestudy, but then she'll definitely see the true US, because we're always up to something like that.

By the way, sometime after Christmas, all the bedrooms (except mine, sigh...) will get a new look, since Colt plans to move into the upstairs bedroom (yet another reason the bathroom up there got a new look). Joy will move over into his present room and our newest little family member will get Joy's present room. So everybody is picking out paint colors in anticipation of these projects. It will give us something to look forward to and something to pass the time as we wait.

And that's it for today, folks. Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you have a great week!

Our "Rustic Prim" Bathroom (Lots of Pictures, Finally)!!

First of all, let me say thank you to everyone for being so patient with me! It seems like forever since we started on this bathroom! It sort of snowballed as far as my budget went. For example, when we went shopping for faucets, I fell in love with this particular one (which of course cost much more) so I had to slow down when it came to decorating it and get creative! There are several Goodwill and thrifty finds used in here. Anyway, you get the picture...so here goes! Please keep in mind that this is a small bathroom, so it was rather tough getting pictures that give you the overall picture! So, I took lots and lots of pictures! Hope I don't bore you!

You'll see my favorite color in here alot! Red...yep, it had to be red! The walls are painted a color called Bread Basket. The vanity cabinet, hanging cabinet, and inside of the door are painted a color called Calico, distressed with antiquing glaze.

Do you remember what it looked like before? Click here to see the "before" pictures.

That's quite a change, isn't it?

Jason made the hanging primitive cabinet. The inside is painted the wall color and the outside is the calico.

Here's a closer look at what's inside.

Did you recognize Kindra's blocks? On the top shelf, to the right is a star that Anne sent me. On the bottom shelf to the left is the candle holder that used to be brass with a primmed candle added and some rose hips and cinnamon sticks (sent to me by Donna) added around it. The pip berry wreath was also a gift from Donna.

That's the candle keep (I think it's called?) that Anne also sent me hanging on the side of the cabinet.

Now when you go in there and shut the door, you see a beautiful red paneled door! Jason added the raised molding for the panels and we painted it the same color red.

Here's a close up of the vanity cabinet.

And can you see the trash can over there? This is what I used. I found it a long time ago at a thrift shop. I intended to paint it, but I can't make up my mind, since you can't see too much of it anyway. The shower curtain has green in it, so I'm living with it awhile to see. If you think I should paint it....what color?

You can see it a little better here. That's the toilet paper holder Jason added to the side of the cabinet.

The vanity area:

Close up of what's on the granite countertop:

The soap dispenser is inside the little basket (above). The little lamp used to be on my sunporch, but found a new home here in the bathroom. I like the soft lighting in the evenings in here.

This was my solution for primitive lighting. I really wanted something that hung down more, but we needed flush to the ceiling lighting. This was actually in the outdoor lighting area of Home Depot.....primitive and very affordable at $39 (alot less than all the other primitive lighting I had my eye on)!

I just love this picture. It says everything about "Home", don't you think? It's above the mirror.

The back of the toilet:

The shower curtain is a Park Design called Cinnamon. Kindra made the vertical saltbox board painting. I couldn't put anything on this wall that was very cumbersome because it is such tight quarters manuvering in there.

Beside the sink.......This is a Goodwill pegboard find that was unfinished for 99 cents with a coat of black paint added. The primitive punched tin light switch cover and outlet cover was purchased from Birgit of The Primitive Country Bug. I have these in other rooms and knew I wanted them for my bathroom!

Hanging on it is another Goodwill find.....the mini washtub. I rubbed some stain on it and added some cinnamon to some soap to grubby them up, tied them up with some cheesecloth, added some sweet annie and prim candles, and instant prim! My nephew, Kemper, was here this week and saw that. He told me he liked how I decorated that. I thought that was really thoughtful and attentive of an eleven year old boy!

And here's a few more shots.

So, that's it. Again, hope it was worth the wait. Nobody was as impatient as me, but I had to learn patience! :) Hope you enjoyed it! And by the way, I'll be back in the swing of Faithful Fridays next week, hopefully. I promised pictures of my bathroom on my next post, so I wanted to make sure I delivered them! :)

I hope you have a great weekend!

Americana & a Little Crafting Too

Okay, I know it's ALWAYS decorated prim Americana, but I really never tire of it! It's my fireplace and entire living room. I do want to make some changes in here, however. I'd like to add a picture of George and Abe near my Declaration of Independence that I hung. (Sorry no pictures of that until I actually get George and Abe there). So although I'll be tweaking with things on the mantel and entire living room from time to time, I have no plans of changing it from prim Americana. I love my Americana! I just loved the house featured in the last Country Sampler issue (Cheryl's home, I believe). Loved it!

I did stick this little quilted flag (another GW find that I had tucked away) in the crock on my crates beside the fireplace too. Again, I haven't tea dyed the flag. I still don't know how I feel about it...it's really hard to resist though! :)

I would love to add some Americana type gameboards somewhere either in my living room or on the staircase wall in the foyer.

Speaking of the foyer, this is the decor on the staircase landing. You've seen it before, and the only thing that's probably changed is what's on the floor. I'm forever moving things there around!

My kitchen table has been covered for the last two days with crafting stuff! It kind of makes it hard to eat. We have to push things around, or eat in the dining room. It would be nice to have a crafting room downstairs. I find that I just won't haul everything upstairs to work on it (where I have a table), so it ends up here at my kitchen table, where I can be near everyone else!

I spray painted this candle holder black. I forget what type of candle holder it's called. Someone help me out here! It used to be brass. I have plans for some rose hips to go in the little tray part and a grubby candle. It will probably go in my bathroom (on my new prim cabinet that Jason built me)...Yay! :)

It seems like I'm always painting frames that I find at GW. My kids' friends are used to seeing frames being painted on my kitchen table! Joy's friend, Molly Grace, asked her why her mom was always painting frames! Now, she always comments on them! :)

I have several wooden spoons from GW also, so I was playing around here. One of them I stained and the other has a mixture of black paint and stain.

Does anyone else actually use their kitchen table or do you all have nice little craft rooms where you work? One of these days, I might, but for now, this will have to do!

I love this pantry sign that Becca made me awhile back! I kept passing by and thinking I might add a little stain to it to tone down the off white a little. I did and I love the look even more, especially against the red door. I don't even think Jason has noticed it yet! :)

Oh, and yesterday I picked up this at Gordman's on their clearance rack. I don't know yet where it will go, but for $3, I couldn't pass it up!

I love to pop in there and browse their clearance section. It looks like they're fading out alot of their primitive decor! Sigh! I love buying handmades for the most part, but I can't always afford to buy that way, and so shopping Gordman's clearance section has helped me add to my prim decor!

Some blogging friends have asked about my bathroom. It's coming along! Kindra is making me a couple of goodies for it and I'm adding some finds and makeovers. Jason added a toilet paper holder to the side of the vanity cabinet. I really promise to show it to you soon! Be patient with me as I put all the finishing touches on!

Okay...here's one more little sneak peek. It's the shower curtain. I really really love the pattern of my kitchen curtains, so this was the winner for my bathroom...it's Park Design's Cinnamon.

Well that's about it around here for today! I hope you all stay cool, and have a great Wednesday! :) I'm stopping by GW today so wish me luck!
