Snow Day: A Sleigh Ride (Southern Style), Snowball Fight, and Snow People

Like most of the southern states, we got snow beginning Sunday evening continuing off and on throughout Monday!  That's always exciting around here because we just don't get that much snow and when we do, everything closes down (even homeschoolers get a snow day).  :)    We ended up with about 4 1/2 inches on the ground.

More unbelievable was that my brother (in Alabama) got 9 inches!  That's just unheard of for them!

Of course, we had to go out and play in it.  Jason had an office day here at home, so he went out to play with us.

Oh and please don't laugh (too hard) at our snow attire......we just start layering with whatever will work.....as in what will fit over what.  Every year I say I'll invest in nice snow suits (especially for the kids), but then a snow day slips in again and I haven't gotten them.  And mind you, they would only get to use in once or twice a year anyway.  So, we just start layering with pjs, wind suits, thermals....whatever we have handy.  Little Luke was so bundled up and stiff he sort of waddled along.  He had on footie pjs, windpants and hoodie an over that, and pj pants over that, topped with his ski jacket and 2 different toboggans along with the hood from the hoodie.  :)  Joy was layered just as much.

Now for our southern style sleigh ride.  If you're expecting a horse drawn sleigh, sorry to disappoint you!  :)  Our sleigh ride was a concrete mixing pan pulled by a 4-wheeler.  :)

Joy and Luke were tucked all nice and snug under a blanket.

Dad was the driving our "sleigh" and mom was the photographer (turned around backwards on the 4-wheeler snapping photos and video).

And I caught Joy a little worried (note the expression) that they were about to tumble over into the ditch at this point.  Of course, dad knew what he was doing.  Luke was calm and collected....oh how trusting he was.  I guess he just felt safe all tucked under his jie jie's arm.   :)

When we got back, the kids got into the messy wet part of snow ball throwing and making snow people.

The snow wasn't a real good sticky-make-a-good-snowman-type-of-snow.  But Joy and Luke made mini "snow people".

Joy's:

Luke's:

Colt had been hibernating under the covers in his room (also off from work) until we came back.  Then he joined in the snowball fight and went for a 4-wheeler ride with Jason.

Here's a little snowball action near my mom and dad's house:  You can hear what a hearty laugh Luke has.  He was thoroughly enjoying this part!  :)  And notice when he falls down, how hard it is for him to get up because he has so many clothes on....making him stiff and waddly.

And of course, I had to take a few scenery photos.  It was so pretty in the wooded area near our home!

Mama and daddy's house next door:

Afterwards, we came home, washed a ton of clothes, and settled in for a marathon of movies in mom and dad's room snuggled up together on the bed.

Today it was back to work for Jason and Colt, back to school for Joy, and back to our normal routines, but the snow still looks so pretty outside!

How about you.....did you get snow......and if so, did you celebrate or hibernate?  :)

Snow.....Again???

That's the third time this year....that's really something! If we get one snow a year, maybe two, it's a big deal.....but this is three! This one took us totally by surprise! (You can tell global warming is in full swing here.....)! ;)

We woke up this morning to a Winter Wonderland out our window (to us anyway). We already have about 4-5", and there's supposed to be another front moving through this evening, so maybe more! Bambi was admiring it from her perch....I wonder what she was thinking? :)

Joy didn't have a clue. Jason woke her up this morning and told her to come on in the kitchen and get breakfast "so we could get started on our schoolwork". She dragged out of bed and was very tickled to see the snowy white blanket over our backyard and the trees! Her normally mean ole homeschool teacher even let her off for the day, so we could go play. Although now that I think about it, there's still plenty of time....maybe some Math is in order yet....

And play we did. Actually, Jason and Joy played more than I did. I was official photographer.

There were snowball fights.

More snowball fights.

Daddy and daughter....

And it was a really good wet sticky snow....good for rolling into balls, and perfect for constructing a little snowman friend.

So she and Jason created our snow buddy....meet Boo Boo.

Doesn't he look like a jolly fella?

Joy, honey....you're losing your pants.....(pants on the ground)! (She was wearing some of my old sweats) :)

That's my feet....had to show you the 4-5"! I love the crunchy sound of the snow under my boots!

It's hard to wear this girl down....tire her out.....to make her want to go inside and get warm! Oh to have that energy again! Glad I'll have her around to help with Luke! :)

And of course, I had to capture some snow scenery photos for our picture album.

My mama and daddy's place next door...they have all the trees!

Oh, and the not-so-fun part about playing in the snow.....the mound of laundry!

It's snowing lots more as I type this so we'll see what happens after this front moves through. I can honestly say we've had our snow(s), and spring would be really nice! I can see why all of you folks in the north talk so much about spring and are so eager to send me some of your snow :)

Thank you for stopping by! :)

Snow....and the Creation of Perry!

Honestly, I was ready for spring! Really I was...even though I've been telling you all I wanted snow! I had convinced myself that we weren't going to get anymore...just the one "little snow" we had back in January, so I had the mindset for spring to arrive! However, we got a little surprise....a late snow (for us) this past Saturday. The morning started off warmer with rain, followed by the temperature drastically dropping throughout the day. I believe it dropped about 30 degrees in a short time, so the rain turned to sleet which turned to big snowflakes. We enjoyed watching the snow at the kitchen table in the breakfast nook while we worked on Joy's geography project for our homeschool Geography Fair. When there was enough on the ground, we had to stop and go out and play.

You can never play in the snow with Joy without a snowball fight and she made a HUGE one!

This was a good sticky snow and we had about 3 inches on the ground by the time it was done because it continued all night off and on...and we went back out on Sunday (church was cancelled) and played again...this time building a miniature snowman....named Perry (by Joy). Okay you northerners....don't laugh...

My mom and dad were watching out the window and thought he needed more. We just gave him whatever we could find nearby...rock eyes and nose and a twig smile. Thanks to my mom and dad, he got this red cap!

Isn't Perry the cutest thing?

We also went 4-wheeler riding in the fields behind the house....Jason, Joy and me. We saw deer tracks back there. It was SO cold, but lots of fun! I don't have pictures from that ride because we were making a silly video instead.

This is a picture of the bushes at my mom and dad's house next door. It was such a pretty snow.

We even had some drift piles like these which were fun for Joy to jump and play in too!

And of course, doesn't every kid have to make a snow angel?

And then her jeans were soppy wet because remember there was rain under that snow! But it was fun while she was doing it anyway!

After this we were getting pretty cold, with numb fingers and toes, so we returned indoors and enjoyed being cozy viewing the snow from our toasty home....and watched the very last DVD of the Anne of Green Gables Series.

NOW it can officially be spring! :)
