Snow....and the Creation of Perry!

Honestly, I was ready for spring! Really I was...even though I've been telling you all I wanted snow! I had convinced myself that we weren't going to get anymore...just the one "little snow" we had back in January, so I had the mindset for spring to arrive! However, we got a little surprise....a late snow (for us) this past Saturday. The morning started off warmer with rain, followed by the temperature drastically dropping throughout the day. I believe it dropped about 30 degrees in a short time, so the rain turned to sleet which turned to big snowflakes. We enjoyed watching the snow at the kitchen table in the breakfast nook while we worked on Joy's geography project for our homeschool Geography Fair. When there was enough on the ground, we had to stop and go out and play.

You can never play in the snow with Joy without a snowball fight and she made a HUGE one!

This was a good sticky snow and we had about 3 inches on the ground by the time it was done because it continued all night off and on...and we went back out on Sunday (church was cancelled) and played again...this time building a miniature snowman....named Perry (by Joy). Okay you northerners....don't laugh...

My mom and dad were watching out the window and thought he needed more. We just gave him whatever we could find nearby...rock eyes and nose and a twig smile. Thanks to my mom and dad, he got this red cap!

Isn't Perry the cutest thing?

We also went 4-wheeler riding in the fields behind the house....Jason, Joy and me. We saw deer tracks back there. It was SO cold, but lots of fun! I don't have pictures from that ride because we were making a silly video instead.

This is a picture of the bushes at my mom and dad's house next door. It was such a pretty snow.

We even had some drift piles like these which were fun for Joy to jump and play in too!

And of course, doesn't every kid have to make a snow angel?

And then her jeans were soppy wet because remember there was rain under that snow! But it was fun while she was doing it anyway!

After this we were getting pretty cold, with numb fingers and toes, so we returned indoors and enjoyed being cozy viewing the snow from our toasty home....and watched the very last DVD of the Anne of Green Gables Series.

NOW it can officially be spring! :)

  1. What a fun day you all had. I think Perry is adorable! I agree with you, it's fun t play in the snow, but I'm so ready for Spring. In fact, we haven't had too much winter weather lately. The temps have been in the 50's & 60's. However, overnight it's been getting cooler but we have a warming trend rolling in so they say for the end of the week. I sure hope so because I am more than ready to get our vegetables planted in the garden.

  6. We must have been hit with the same storm. I like you had given up hope but what a nice surprise. I went out long enough to take a few pictures and that was it for me. I love Perry he is so cute. My girls just walk around with their friends. Teens aren't as much fun. :)

  10. We had snow too, our first in 5 years! Our little 4 year old grandaughter had spent the night with us, so we were able to take lots of pics of her first time playing in the snow. She loved it and so did we. The roads didn't freeze, and it was on the weekend so hubby could be home too. It was so nice. We love snow here and have been wanting it for a long time. So what a sweet blessing for us and many others who felt the way we did.
After the grandbaby went home, I made a big pit of soup and we just lounged around and watche dthe snow fall. It snowed HUGE flakes all day Sunday and we ended up with about 6 inches! A lot of it melted yesterday, but we still have a few little patches here and there. I'm sure it will be gone by this afternoon.
Your pics are so nice. I know this made some wonderful memories.

  12. That looks like fun! Perry won't last too long with that sunshine, though! :(
I hope Mother Nature will cooperate with everyones Spring wishes. It has been a long, cold winter in some parts of the US.
    Hope all is well~~

  17. Glad you got such a pretty snow, Tammy. That's my type of snow---a wet one that clings to everything. Gorgeous!!!!

We have gotten almost NO snow here this year---just a few dribbles and drabbles... I wanted to see snow--but now, I'm ready for SPRING...

    Great pictures.

  18. Hi Tammy, Sorry I haven't been in touch... Julianna has been really sick for almost a week now. She got Joy's letter last Wed, the day she got sick. Her reply letter took a few days for her to write, in between bouts of fever (it's been NASTY!!). Anyway, I will pop it in the mail for Joy tomorrow and you can tell her that Julianna made her a little gift. We're going to try a half day back to school tomottor... and I told her she can call me when she's ready to come home for a nap ;) She probably will!
    Have a great night! Kimberly

  19. Awww Tammy, it looks like you and Joy had so much fun. She definitely sounds like such a wonderful girl. I wish they wouldn't grow up...Cassie (20) definitely doesn't want to play in the snow with me anymore! We ride our 4-wheelers in the snow too..so much fun!

  20. Mom,

I love snow.....ahhh....=D. LOL! Perry just popped into my head when you asked me what his name was! I think last year we named him Scamper or Frosty. I'm not sure. Yes, Spring, it's safe to come out now.

    Love, Joy =D

  23. Hi Tammy,
Sounds like a wonderful and fun time in the snow! It is beautiful for sure! And Perry is too cute! I too am ready for winter. I thought I'd never say that, but since we haven't had much winter at all this year, I want spring, pretty colors and lots of green, as right now, it's died out. So if I can't have snow, I want some spring to go with our spring temps. Hope you are having a beautiful week!
