He Never Lets Us Forget.....

This was my favorite vehicle that we owned. It was a 1985 Mustang GT and it was mine! I remember the day Jason drove it up to the bank where I worked. At that time, it was silver, not white. It wasn't brand-new. It had belonged to someone else for about three or four months. But I knew the minute I saw it, I wanted it.

That car served us faithfully for many years. I remember us being packed like sardines in it when Colt and my nephew, Trey, were babies. They were three months apart. We would go shopping (and sometimes grocery shopping) with me driving, and either my mom or sister-in-law, Missy, in the passenger seat. Then we had one baby on one side, the other one on the other side and either my mom or Missy in between them (they would trade off). On top of that, it was only two doors and it was a 5-speed. So you can imagine how hard it was getting two babies in and out of the car especially with packages and all! But we did it! We looked like cool mamas, I guess! Or we might of looked like the Beverly Hillbillies somedays! :) We even had a bag phone for our car; anyone remember those?

The paint started chipping on it and my cousin that does body work, repainted it white for us, and I really liked that color even more! We drove that car for a total of eight years and decided we needed more of a family car with four doors. We sold it and got us a 1993 Buick LeSabre and it felt huge and so luxurious, but it didn't take me long to miss my cool Mustang with power! :)

Many times since then, I've missed that ole' car! No other car has given me the same feeling that car gave me. And I can't tell you how many times Colt has asked, "Why in the world did you sell that car? Why weren't you thinking of your future children? Did you not realize that we would want that car, especially your son?"

And to be honest with you, I wish we had.

  6. Oh I'm sure you do miss it. I had a '93 Red Chevy Cadillac El Dorado with 68,000 miles on it. I loved that car. We took our grandkids to Kansas City to World of Fun in 2007 and the car broke down there. Stranded in KC, instead of trying to get it hauled home, after all we had 7 and 11 year olds stranded with us, we traded it in on a new car. I really like my new car, but still miss the Caddy and wish we could have "saved" her :o(

  8. Tammy, I love your '85 GT Mustang that you used to have! I can't wait to show it to Daniel! I know he'll love it too!!
Daniel was selling his 2000 silver Mustang V6, and told me that one of the guys that was stationed at our TAFB here in OKC with him, but was now in Iraq with Daniel was real interested in buying it..
Well, it just so happens that I was out getting our mail one day, and walked past his silver mustang sitting there in our driveway, and decided that I would love to own it for my very own car! That way too, Daniel would know that we had it, and knew that we'd be taking good care of it.. When he took it on his very first test drive, I told him right then and there, that if he didn't buy it, that his Mom was going to! I loved it back then too! :)
So many times when we meet him someplace for lunch, we'll drive our mustang and Daniel will happen to just see it traveling down the street or highway and think to himself, wow! what a nice looking Mustang, and then he'd see that it was his Mom or Dad driving his old v-6er.. He did do a gorgeous job on putting his own touches on it. Both us and Daniel has got many compliments on it.. He now owns a 1999 white Cobra.. which is very beautiful looking too! :) He also has a white Kia Spectra that he drives to and from his work during the week. He saves his Cobra for his weekend driving car..since that's his Baby, so to speak...

My very 1st car that I wish I would have kept is my 1957 chevy.. I loved it, and it only cost me $100 back in 1967! My brother loved mine so much that he bought himself one and painted his chevy fire engine red! It looked beautiful!

My 2nd car that I wish I would have kept was a 1976 sedan de ville white Cadilac, with a skyroof... We bought it when we lived in Tampa, Fla. I had so much fun driving it and especially driving it with the skyroof opened.. it felt like I was driving a convertible! My 2 older kids loved driving in it too.. We had alot of fun and made great memories, traveling around in that car!

It is amazing how we really do get attached to our vehicles! They do become a part of us.. We also have a green toyota corolla that has been a good car over the years for us now.. but, we are getting the notion to maybe just shop around for another car one of these days.. I'm really not in any hurry yet to trade the corolla in... ;)

Have a great day Tammy! Thanks for taking me back on memory lane!

    Love & Blessings,
    ~Lynn/Okc

  9. I can relate to your story. It's the memories and sentiments that make it so special.

My Dad had an awesome Mustang convertible that candy apple red and white leather interior at one time. Back when I was a baby. But because my mother was filing for divorce and he got stuck paying for it he had to sell the car to create income to pay for the court fees. Ugghhh! I never saw the car (like I said I was just a baby) but boy I bet it was a beauty! My Dad still talks of that car with pride.

  11. Hi Tammy, I never had a Mustang but I did own a 1968 Camero.. What a great little car!! It also was a 5-speed and had an awesome 8-track player in it... Remember them???

    Have a wonderful day.

  12. My Mom had a car like that when I was a teen. SHe bought it not long after my parents divorced. I think it made her feel cool and independant. It was also white but with a red interior. Now my favorite vehicle is the truck we own now. It's a silver Toyota Tundra and I love it. One day I hope to get another Tundra but I want to keep this one.

  18. That was one sweet ride... 5 speed, that is such fun.

  19. Hi Tammy,

Thanks for sharing. That was a nice ride. It's odd how so many memories flood my mind after reading about the car. My first car was a cavalier Z24. I'm sure most don't remember the Z24's. As for the bag phones I do remember them. Actually, when we moved from our log cabin to our new house a couple of years ago I wouldn't let my husband throw them away. I told him they would be an antique soon. While we were in the antique stores this weekend I saw the old rotary dial phones. It was a treat to see those, I'm sure most kids wouldn't know what to do with one of those...lol.

  20. Hi, Tammy,
Loved the story about your Mustang. My first car was a used white 1984 Mustang Limited Edition...boy, did I think I was something in that car! Ha Ha. I sold it after I got married, and your story brought back so many memories of it!

  22. I was the same way Tammy! I had to roll around in the cool car - even with car seats, groceries, you name it! I remember my first 4 door car - I was devastated. After our wreck a few months ago, I got a Monte Carlo SS - yes back to 2 doors and man do I miss my 4 doors! So much more room!
    Guess I'll never be happy!

  23. Oh, that is a cool car, Tammy! In fact, my hubby especially would be SO envious!

My first car was one that my dad bought for me because of it's "safety and reliability"...very "dad" things! An old homely, brown '74 Plymouth Valliant. But even that car is now a classic! ;)

Oh, to answer your question about the home school open house, that is next Tuesday, the 17th.
So glad you're going to try to join in even though Tuesdays are your busy days! :)
    Hugs,
~Tammy (the one with the uncool car)

  25. Isn't is funny what memories an old car can hold? Jeffrey still has his first car ~ an old 65 mustang. It is now in poor condition and he just mentioned selling it this weekend so he could buy a tractor for the farm. Now your post has been thinking about that????

I really want a small pickup truck for myself in orange. That would be the perfect ride for me and my buddy Colton!

    Smiles,
    Lea

  26. Oh that was a cool car, Tammy- I have to agree with Colt on that one! LOL
The very first guy I ever dated had a Mustang like that- except it was red and white. (with a white interior! Ugh!)
