Olympic Day

On Tuesday, our homeschool group had their very own version of the Olympics! Instead of our normal gym day, we all met at a local park for the Olympic events. We had a really good turn-out and the kids seemed to have a very good time. There were field events and races in which to participate. I know Joy especially enjoyed herself as she was really into the Summer Olympics and watching it on TV.

The games began in normal Olympic fanfare with the passing of the torch! The kids spread out completely around the track at the park. The "torch" was run along by one and passed along to another. The last little guy to run the torch to our resting spot (Mrs. Kim that coordinated this whole event) was little Warren!

Here's Joy participating in the discus throw: (We thought this picture was so funny...it looks like her braid was attached to the frisbee!)

And in the soccer kick:

Here she was doing the shot put....what a face!

And here she is doing the broad jump:

And running one of the races....

Joy loves babies....She tells me that when she gets married, she's having six kids and she's never going to move out of this house with her dad and me and that they'll live upstairs and I'll help her give them great birthday parties! I told her that was perfectly fine with me...as long as her husband has a good job! :)

Here she is holding Noah....and that's Riley (Noah & Riley are sisters and friends of ours). Sometimes she'd rather just be holding or playing with a baby rather than playing!

And here's a picture of the whole gang (well..all the kids:

There will be an award ceremony for the winners next Tuesday at gym....the gold, silver, and bronze place winners! And of course, everyone was a winner for participating and having fun....so all will get a participation award!

  1. Joy always looks so happy. I always smile when I see her. The Olympics look fun!! What a great way to be physical and meet/connect with other homeschoolers. It's great that you have such a great group!

I'm still catching up to blogging. I missed yesterdays...your kitchen is looking sooooo good, Tammy!! That color really made it POP! Along with the other prim/country decor!! It's a lot of work but it's so worth it in the end!

  2. What a great idea. It's nice to see that you have a great group of homeschoolers to join up with for neat events like this. Joy looks so happy! Love the pigtail picture.

That brought back memories. Joy sounds like my Jen used to sound MANY moons ago. Back when my kids were young, I thought it would be awful to not have them at home, but after 28+ years of raising kids, somehow it seems more than right for them to be on their own. It's part of life and it's just as exciting seeing them forging their own lives. I am thrilled that they both live VERY close though - I am not ready to cut apron strings totally! Thanks for reminding me of another day and time!

  4. Hi Tammy!
Thank you for sharing these pic's of Joy and the other children during their Olympics! Looks like they all were having a really wonderful time! I too, loved the pig tail picture of Joy! Now that's some real good photograpy there! I loved all the facial expressions Joy portraied in each picture! One can see that she puts her all into everything she does! Joy is a real sweetie and always has a beautiful smile to share with everyone!

I love your kitchen/dining room areas too that you shared pictures of! Everything looks sooo beautiful Tammy! You've got such a wonderful man there to do the work and build all those gorgeous items for you! There really aren't too many men like your Jason out there nowadays! You're one lucky gal I'd say!

    Have a wonderful day Tammy!

  5. Great pics! I homeschooled my girls for just one year and we all loved it. It was such a wonderful time for us to really connect without having to run here and there. The public school system is what's best for us and we're really excited that Emily, in grade 6, is now in a Christian school, thanks to my in-laws.
I wish your family all the best!
    Blessings, Kimberly

  9. Oh how fun!
Brought back memories from when I was young and they actually would hold games like this at school for the year end. I never did all that good...never was and still not much of a sporty kind of person. But it was always fun :)

To your question about the my felt projects...none of it is done on the sewing machine. It is all done by hand. Trust me if I can do it...ANYONE can! As I do more and more I am getting better and better at it. In the Create&Decorate Magazine they have some awesome projects to do with felt or they actually use real wool. I hear once you use real wool you never go back to the felt. But around here, wool is very hard to find and I am enjoying it no matter what with the felt. They way I have been seeing it...use you imagination. There is no limit on what you would want to do. I am almost all finished the one pattern that I received from Linda. I will then complete the stacking pumpkins. After that I think I will begin Christmas/Winter projects. I have a pattern for a Christmas Tree and it seems real simple to do. If you wish I can forward the Tree pattern onto you no problem at. There is even a step by step that I saved in the computer for this little project. Just drop me a line with your email address if you are interested.

I just love what you have done so far in your kitchen. I LOVE decorating so much and love seeing how people put together their things and all their ideas. I am happy to know that I motivate you. I always look forward to more new pics. Just keep us posted...LOL

    Have a great Thursday,
    Sandy :)

  16. What a fun day! Joy is just so cute...her facial expressions always crack me up. I have been thinking so much about homeschooling. I am just worried I won't be able to help my son with all he needs. Then again, I can't do much worse than what he is already receiving. I just don't know. Anyway, have a nice weekend...and boy is your kitchen looking so fabulous...
